Sound analysis task

This clip includes diegetic sound throughout. At first we are not sure whether the music in this clip is diegetic or non diegetic however we are made aware that it is diegetic when we are shown that the music is being played out of the instrument. We are also aware of the fact that all character's in this scene can hear the music being played. The speech between the father and son is diegetic as they are in conversation opposed to there being a voice over on the clip.

The sound effect used with in the first 3 seconds of the clip builds up tension, making the audience feel on edge for what's to come. The added sound effects of the demon's work station from 17-36 seconds have been included to create a busy atmosphere, distracting the audience from the real problem of the other character's trying to escape. The sound effect used right at the end of the clip when the music has stopped was intended to create a jump scare effect on the audience.

It can be argued that the music used in this scene can be interpreted as being parallel or contrapuntal. Firstly, the argument that the music used is contrapuntal can be constructed through the fact that the song used in this scene is quite upbeat and jolly - this is the opposite of the dark, eerie scene being illustrated. However this music can be seen as parallel to the scene as it is quite creepy, contributing to the twisted series of images in this scene - making the audience feel on edge and uncomfortable.
