Chiron is a character of few words. Why is this? How do the three actors use body language to communicate Chiron’s emotions to the audience? Why is he reluctant to make eye contact with people?
Chiron's emotions are communicated to the audience through his character's actions and personality - Chiron's character is quite quiet and unsocial. We often see Chiron's character by himself - this is because of his everyday personal struggle.

Did anything about the Miami setting surprise you, compared to its party image in popular culture? How does the saturated colour capture the image of the city the filmmakers are trying to convey?
This movie focused on the less mainstream parts of Miami - bringing attention to the areas of struggle and poverty which isn't what is usually associated with Miami. Moonlight is split into three chapters, following Chiron from childhood through to adulthood. The first chapter is based around Chiron's slow discovery of his sexuality as we are introduced to some key characters: Juan and Teresa. The second chapter is based around Chiron's exploration of his sexuality with the character 'Kevin' - they both try to hide their true sexuality. The third chapter is about Chiron getting back in touch with his true sexuality when reunited with Kevin.
